ADVENTURING IN THE UK WITH ASTRID WILD
I’ve been living in the UK now for over three years. In that time several people have asked what keeps me here and my answer is always short and simple - the landscape and outdoor adventures.
Between England and Scotland (the two countries I have now lived in), there are so many beautiful scenic hills to climb, roads to drive and historical buildings to explore. Each new adventure I go on I am blown away by the beauty and uniqueness of the area. Along with that, I’ve also come to realise that you need good gear to wear to match the weather that can be often unpredictable.
This past month I went on a mission to find brands from the UK and Europe who know a thing or two about functional clothing for outdoors and that’s when I stumbled upon Astrid Wild.
ASTRID WILD | OUTDOOR WEAR FOR FEMALE SHAPES
Astrid Wild is a women’s only outdoor wear brand founded by Maria and Jemina on the insight that women were underserved on the outdoor market when it comes to design, fit and sizes. During their own adventuring they went looking for suitable outdoor wear, but couldn't find anything that inspired them in the women’s section. They realised the outdoor industry had a history of being focused on men and performance which is the reason why the majority of brands have more products for men than women.
With that in mind they set out to create unparalleled outdoor wear for female shapes that allows us as women, as well as future generations to come, to feel inspired to spend more time in the wild, whether it be in the forests, the mountains, or by the sea.
CREATIVE PROCESS & TRANSPARENCY
At Astrid Wild they have made a point to be intentional with how their products are designed and manufactured, caring not only for their customers but also the planet. Their starting point was asking 400 women what they were missing on the outdoor market and listening in to that feedback has become a crucial part of their product development process.
As an outcome, they have extended their size range to include 42 different pants sizes, for more women to feel included on the outdoor scene.
Because nature is the reason for Astrid Wild’s existence it is a priority for them to make responsible choices when it comes to their production. Some of their sustainable actions have included using as much natural fabrics as possible, small batch production, local production in Europe and the reuse of scrap fabric where possible.
MY OUTFIT
MINNA WOOL FLEECE JACKET
I’m currently wearing this jacket as I type this blog post out because it’s just so cozy and soft not to! This jacket is made with recycled Italian wool mix and is designed with a high collar and relaxed fit. I’m always a fan of anything oversized especially when it keeps me as warm as this jacket does. There are a couple extra features that make it special like thumb holes for hand warmth and zippers on each pocket for safety.
I’m wearing the color Camel in size Medium.
AMELIA HIKING PANTS
I’m quite a tall gal, coming in at 5’11”, so whenever a brand has a tall option for pants I am sold almost instantly and the Amelia Hiking Pants don’t disappoint. These pants offer some other unique features like a strong stretch in the material which allows for great mobility and is also helpful if you want to wear a base layer underneath to stay warm. The material is also treated with durable water repellency, and there are extra pockets all over the pants, enough room for gadgets and snacks you’d want to bring with you.
After putting this outfit to the test up some hills and on little adventures, I can confidently say that the details, design and material get an A+ for functionality, warmth and style.
They have several other products on their site from base layers to accessories that you can check out from the link HERE.
I’m looking forward to heading back out on a new adventure with my Astrid Wild gear.
